On Saturday I had the opportunity to mentor with a fellow photographer all about posing. This was the first time I’ve ever mentored solely on the subject of posing so I was curious to see how much I really had to say on the subject.
After digging deep and analyzing why I pose the way I do and the thought processes that go behind posing … I realized I had a whole lot more to say than I thought.
But I’m also a talker … so no surprise there ;)
So, since my brain is going a million miles today with a million thoughts … I’m going to share one simple tip about posing for headshots.
In every session I try to get a headshot of each child. I adore an up-close picture of a sweet face with sparkling eyes … and I know you mom’s do to so I make that one of my priorities.
But, believe it or not, I do put a bit of thought into composing a headshot. That’s right, what you would *think* is the simplest of poses (uh, no awkward hands or anything!) actually requires some consideration :)
First thing I look for is a spot to create some beautiful bokeh. Can I find a place with lovely light to create a range of colors like this picture?
Or can I find a little pocket of bright color that is the perfect size for a headshot?
How about a spot with great texture?
So next time you are composing a headshot look for that lovely light, colorful bokeh or interesting texture and you won’t be disappointed :)
OH and I’m truly sorry if I caused anyone to die.of.shock. that I actually watermarked my images (for the first time in TWO years. True story). You’ll also be shocked to know that my blog is about to get a color and logo makeover. It’s going to pretty. Oh, and a few of you were interested in learning more about matting pictures so I’m working on that, I promise. AND I’m planning out the dates for my classes for this spring (first one in MARCH!). So stay tuned ok? :)
